50 Years and Beyond: Embedding Community Voices

It’s our mission to work in partnership with local communities to co-create exhibitions and events that celebrate their cultural heritage and history of Oxford. To continue our work embedding their voices in our collections and displays, we’ll collaborate with ten under-represented communities, identifying new objects and stories that will become, through loan or acquisition, part of a celebratory exhibition. Our 50th Anniversary in 2025 is the perfect opportunity to celebrate how Oxford’s people have shaped the city. With them, we’ll co-develop a year-long public programme of special events showcasing our most popular stories and objects, as well as new ones. We’ll invite visitors to choose their favourite heritage objects and stories. We’ll recruit a Cultural Learning and Participation Apprentice who - with the museum team’s support - will work regularly in community centres, connecting us with new communities at the same time as undertaking a Level 3 apprenticeship.
