A Common Treasury: Cleeton St Mary - repairing it’s history, its people and its church for the enrichment of all.

This project, called A Common Treasury, is centred around the unique history of Cleeton and its church St. Mary’s. The project will repair the church roof so that it can be fully used once again by locals and serve as a stopping point for tourists and visitors. As part of the Common Treasury, the project will collect the oral histories of people of Cleeton, unique in its 4000 year unbroken history, it will discover new connections and hidden histories and make visible the history of the intertwined industrial and rural life on Clee Hill, in the mines and quarries, and the lives of the commoners working the land. The project will create opportunities to learn and enhance Red List traditional skills and allow locals to engage creatively with their history and environment. Local networks, forged by research for this proposal, will be deepened and findings shared through a website.
