Historic Buildings
We hope to achieve the safeguarding of Cambo’s walled garden by addressing urgent repair needs. This is a project to 'save heritage' to ensure continued and increased community access to connect with the listed designed landscape and natural heritage of Cambo Estate. A phase of emergency consolidation will prevent further deterioration of the historically significant walls, while addressing immediate health and safety concerns. These walls enclose two vital areas of our popular visitor attraction: the 'Edible Garden,' where produce is grown using 'no dig' methods, and the 'Sundial Garden,' focused on biodiversity and wildlife-friendly planting. Both areas provide a space for 'citizen science' activities, enjoyment, and skill development. This repair work will enable extended training opportunities for 170 young people and adults on heritage and environmental themes, while inspiring over 50,000 visitors annually through the dedication of Cambo’s gardeners and volunteers and engagement with heritage stories.
