Accessing Our Hidden History - The Disabled People’s Archive

Greater Manchester Coalition of Disabled People (GMCDP) is Disabled People's Organisation, 100% run and controlled by disabled members. Our 20-month project “Accessing Our Hidden History-The Disabled People’s Archive” will harness GMCDP’s 40th Anniversary to launch our newly catalogued Disabled People’s Archive – the largest of its kind nationally – creating opportunities to preserve, celebrate and contribute to our Disabled People’s Movement’s heritage. We will promote the Disabled People’s Archive to disabled people, groups and organisations, and support the heritage sector in improving accessibility, inclusion and representation of disabled people. We will do this through a programme of accessible and inclusive events, workshops, archive training sessions and a community outreach programme, blending in-person and online opportunities throughout. Our history is often hidden and our Movement significantly under-recognised. It is vital that disabled people -and wider society- can access the history of the Disabled People’s Movement, to learn, celebrate, contribute and progress.
