Historic Buildings

Althorne Unlocked

Our mission is to save St Andrew’s Church. To save the physical structure and invest in capacity building to create a step change in approach to how the church is used so we can secure our future and see the church active at the heart of our community. St Andrew’s is a beautiful Grade II* listed church in the village of Althorne. It has stood at the centre of the village for over 700 years, acting as a beacon of hope, community, and peace. However, it stands at risk of permanent closure. Due to its deteriorating condition, the church building was closed to visitors in mid-2023 and added to the Heritage at Risk Register. It cannot be reopened until major stabilisation and repair works are completed. This will be accompanied by a new programme of heritage and community activities to engage a diverse audience of people of all backgrounds.
