Analysis of artefacts and samples from "At the Roaring Stream: Archaeological Investigations at Bremenium Roman Fort, High Rochester, Northumberland"

This application is a follow on from application HA-24-00168. Following a very successful excavation at Bremenium Roman Fort, High Rochester, Northumberland by the Redesdale Archaeology Group (RAG), in 2025, we found ourselves with far more artefacts/samples for post excavation analysis than anticipated after the excavation was finished. The sum for post excavation requested in the original bid will not be sufficient to cover the actual costs. The 2025 excavation was exceptional in the quantity and quality of the artefacts recovered. Although the dig itself is the exciting phase of a project it becomes, in many ways, a pointless exercise unless you can fully analyse, study and conserve what has been found and then publish the findings. Thorough and detailed post excavation analysis of the finds is essential to proving what the heritage and meaning of the site is. It will contribute significantly to our understanding of Bremenium’s history and development.
