Historic Buildings
Redesdale Archaeology Group (RAG) is a community-run organisation which evolved from the Lottery-funded Revitalising Redesdale Landscape Partnership Scheme (RR). Our organisation would like to continue and diversify the community-based archaeological project that RR successfully undertook at the Roman Fort, Bremenium in north Northumberland. The focus of this archaeological excavation are the annexes adjacent to the fort which have huge archaeological potential. The project aims to increase the knowledge of the history, life and archaeology of Bremenium among the wider community. This will be achieved through engaging the local community, children from a local rural school in Otterburn as well as the inner-city charity, Kid's Kabin, in Newcastle through creative activities and site visits. Also involved will be students from Newcastle University. Further engagement will be achieved through talks, guided walks and local shows. A website will be set-up containing heritage material which will increase accessibility and diversity.
