Barbican Sculpture Court Revived

This project will revive the Barbican Sculpture Court, a Grade II*-listed site at the heart of the Grade II-listed Barbican Estate, into an inclusive, dynamic public space. Distinct from London’s traditional parks and garden squares, this unique post-war urban setting offers a hard-landscaped architectural environment designed for gathering and informal creative encounter. Long underused, we will transform the BSC into a welcoming hub for communities and visitors, an accessible gateway into the Barbican and a starting point for heritage discovery. To inform interpretation and activity, the project will expand the Barbican Archive to include local community history and develop an archive strategy to safeguard and open access to our collections. The project will act as a catalyst for transforming the Barbican’s culture of working with local communities, placing local voices at the heart of our transformation and providing creative and accessible ways to reveal our rich and complex heritage.
