Museums And Archives
Compas Charity would like to develop the Baripen Archive, a project focused on preserving and sharing Roma history, culture and oral histories. We have already started this work with support from the Heritage Fund and the National Archives, and now we want to take it further. We will protect important collections that are at risk, including materials given to us by well-known Roma and non-Roma researchers and activists. These stories and documents are very important and should not be lost. The project will organise and digitise the archive and make it open to the public, both online and at the Peterborough Cultural Centre. We will also run exhibitions, workshops and events to bring people together, raise awareness and challenge stereotypes. We will involve volunteers and train people from the community. Our aim is to create a lasting Roma archive in the UK that builds pride, understanding and connection.
