Belmont Community Cinema Heritage Project – Saving the Silver Screen in the Silver City

The project aims to improve lives by bringing cultural, social and educational benefits to Aberdeen’s communities. Undertaking the urgent redevelopment and reopening of the historic Belmont Cinema, Aberdeen’s last remaining independent picture house, the organisation will restore the much-loved cultural asset to community use, whilst simultaneously preserving and celebrating the City’s wider cinematic heritage. Refurbishment will improve the condition and fabric of the neglected cinema building, reducing carbon footprint and ensuring sustainability. The redevelopment will deliver an exceptional experience to a wide audience, in upgraded auditoriums, spacious, welcoming public spaces, a dedicated education and filmmaking centre, and versatile café bar and social space. By curating a film programme that reflects, and appeals to, local audiences, delivering innovative filmmaking programmes, and activities that explore the rich history and traditions of Aberdeen and cinema, the Belmont will provide unique opportunities for communities to connect, develop new skills, and share positive experiences.
