Bishopstone – the Grade 1 Church of St John the Baptist - reroofing and urgent repair to the structure of the North Transept.

We wish to save the historic Church of St John the Baptist, Bishopstone from failure/collapse of the structure, thereby restoring/improving the building’s full utilisation and deliver key benefits to the heritage, the environment, inclusion and organisational stability. Recent inspections highlighted major structural problems and an urgent need to repair the roof of the North Transept in our 13th Century, Grade 1 listed church. This has significantly reduced the capacity of the church for the last 4 years, impacting visits to enjoy the heritage, reducing inclusion and disrupting organisational stability. Repairing the failing structure, resurfacing the roof with new lead, replacing the transept ceiling and improving roof ventilation will support the heritage for many years. The project will enable full utilisation of the building, save this heritage as a legacy of local and English history for generations to come and enable our planned activities to increase access and improve inclusivity.
