Historic Buildings
Brathay Blueprint - Buildings, Boats and Brighter Futures
We will use Brathay’s 80-year heritage to build brighter futures. This project will help conserve our historic estate, boat fleet, and archive, making them more accessible and relevant. We’ll protect craft skills, connect people to nature, and celebrate outdoor learning—empowering young people and underrepresented groups, and ensuring Brathay’s legacy continues to inspire, include, and transform lives. The project will: Create a Blueprint to identify best long-term sustainable use and sensitive adaptation of our historic estate and heritage buildings for future users. Identify a route-map for future investment and sustainable development opportunities at Brathay. Uncover, record and present hidden stories of Brathay's pioneering past. Professionally curate and make accessible the Brathay Archive of the Outdoor Learning Movement. Whilst conserving our heritage boat fleet, we’ll activate our Heritage Boat Conservation Skills succession plan. Celebrate our heritage and launch our future at our special 80th year events in 2026.
