Historic Buildings
The project seeks to conserve, restore and repurpose a historic building situated within Caledon’s designated Conservation Area and return it to sustainable use for years to come. The restored building will provide after-school provision for older children, alongside flexible space designed to support wellbeing, creativity and engagement with the natural environment. The adjoining enclosed green space offers a distinctive opportunity to create an integrated heritage and outdoor-learning resource. The building will be sensitively refurbished using modern heritage construction methods to achieve high energy efficiency while retaining its historic character. Minimal structural intervention is required, and by taking inspiration from forest-school principles and adapting them in a way that suits the scale and character of the green space available whilst making use of existing natural features and local materials. The project will be delivered by Caledon Regeneration Partnership, a not for profit cross-community organisation with extensive heritage and project management expertise.
