Historic Buildings
Carlisle Memorial Phase Two: Enabling Regeneration
Carlisle Memorial Phase Two will restore the Carlisle Memorial Link Building, part of one of Belfast’s most significant heritage sites, and transform it into a vibrant base for creative and community activity. This vital capital and engagement project will bring a heritage building at risk back into use, supporting the ongoing regeneration of the adjoining Carlisle Memorial Church, and strengthen Belfast Buildings Trust’s long-term, heritage-led strategy while growing ‘Creative Belfast’, piloted during 2024-25, into a multi-year skills programme offering local young people internships and new pathways into the heritage and creative industries. In north Belfast, a contested area impacted by systemic deprivation, this project combines heritage regeneration with community investment, connecting people to place, pride, and opportunity. Its legacy will be a restored heritage asset in daily use, a trusted community platform for creativity and learning, and a practical, people-focused model of heritage driving inclusive growth and regeneration in Belfast.
