Celebrating George Stephenson's 200th anniversary of rail in Chesterfield

Holy Trinity is a grade two listed building in Chesterfield and is of relatively recent construction 1837. However we are the resting place for George Stephenson, the railway engineer. We have always been visited by enthusiasts and local schools interested in engineering and railways. In recent times this has become a curriculum addition and now visited by more schools than ever before. With the 200th anniversary of railways in 2025 considerable interest in the resting place of Stephenson is happening. Our project is to celebrate this heritage, inform new and local communities of the rail heritage plus develop the community rooms at the church into a functioning visitor facility, new interpretation associated with the Town around Stephenson, create focused celebration events with, offer volunteer and learning opportunities, develop informative and interesting activities for students, families and visitors to appreciate Chesterfield's connection.
