VocalEyes (VE) will develop a training programme in co-creative audio description (AD) to be delivered at 10 heritage hubs across the UK. Up to 60 heritage staff and 60 blind, VI and sighted volunteer community collaborators will develop skills resulting in co-created ADs of up to 120 heritage assets (objects, artworks, artefacts or spaces). The project legacy will be: ~a broader range of heritage is discoverable and accessible locally and online. ~increased awareness of barriers faced by VI visitors to the heritage sector, and sharing the skills to reduce these barriers ~increased volunteering opportunities for blind/VI people leading to greater connection with local heritage, and reduced isolation ~developing an inclusive and representative approach to AD, amplifying diverse voices and perspectives ~sharing skills so that AD can be produced in-house in a more sustainable way, increasing capacity and reducing pressure on budgets ~reduced environmental footprint by enabling locally produced AD.
