Conservation and repair of the brick façade of Willmer House, Museum of Farnham

The project enables Waverley BC to deliver a 1.1-million-pound programme of essential conservation and repair works to the principal façade of Willmer House, a grade 1 listed Georgian townhouse. Established conservation methods will be used to prevent further decline and improve the durability of Willmer House in perpetuity. The Museum of Farnham has occupied the building since 1961. We see the restoration as a significant step in the journey towards a resilient and sustainable museum operation. In collaboration with Farnham Maltings, our service delivery partner, we will advocate for a new funding model and constancy to our partnership arrangements. We will set a new vision and address operational challenges. We see the conservation as the starting point for longer-term ambitions. Initially we will use the opportunity to increase our public engagement and develop audiences, but ultimately, we aim to innovate the museum, making our heritage more relevant to contemporary audiences.
