Brooklands is the world's first purpose-built motor racing circuit, a Scheduled Monument on Historic England's Heritage At Risk Register, and one of Britain's most significant sites of twentieth-century innovation and technological achievement. This project lays the foundations for a step-change in how Brooklands Museum conserves, presents and shares this extraordinary heritage by developing plans to deliver the ambition to become a nationally recognised ‘Museum of Speed and Flight’. The project will commission specialist support to inform conservation work on the scheduled monument, plan for the decarbonisation of the site and produce a people-first site-wide masterplan and interpretive strategy which places the track and Brookland’s stories at the heart of a reimagined visitor journey. The result will be a pragmatic, phased and fully costed strategy — grounded in conservation responsibility, shaped by audience insight, and designed to grow visits, deepen engagement and build long-term financial resilience.
