Dig Appleby - Unearthing the Past

Our project is entitled 'Appleby - Unearthing the Past'. Our intention is to investigate up to three sites which are from the Iron Age/Roman period and are expected to have connections with the Iron Age population of the area, building on recent work which has reclassified a local site. Very little is known about settlement in this area of the Eden Valley before the building of Appleby Castle, so we have identified some key local sites to investigate. We have a track record of 28 years varied archaeological work and activities, not just digging but with a strong educational element, involving schools, talks, skills workshops, and training All of these will be an essential part of the project and although there is a relatively small population base here, we can show that there is a need, demand and desire for this project locally.
