Discover Jesmond 1888

Our ultimate goal is to save heritage of national importance - two rare pipe organs, both originally built by T.C. Lewis (1833-1915), and housed in listed and architecturally significant buildings. In order to achieve this, we have split our strategy into two stages. In Stage 1 we aim to raise the profile of an outstanding heritage of architecture, industrial history, arts and culture, by establishing an effective and lasting connection between Jesmond United Reformed Church and St George's (Anglican) Church, Jesmond. This application is for the creation of a permanent heritage trail between the two churches to revive a collective memory and sense of pride. Alongside this will be a strong and targeted eighteen-month long events programme, to achieve community engagement. This will highlight key areas of interest and will include history- and heritage-based talks and activities, music workshops and hands-on creative projects exploring the Arts and Crafts tradition.
