Museums And Archives
This project would replace the roof of the Victorian Hall and enable collections currently in storage, to be on public display. We will be able to again tell the local story of Dorchester and the significance of the origins of Dorset Museum & Art Gallery. We know our local audiences are disengaged with Museum, many no longer visiting, as this element had to be removed from the previous large capital project, due to escalating costs. The roof also covers the library that includes many rare books, and staff offices. All of these areas will be better protected, environmentally sustainability will improve and our running costs will be reduced due to improved performance of the building. We will also remove inappropriate roof materials, ensuring an appropriate solution for the listed building.
