Earthbound Orkney

Through this project we would like to achieve a better shared understanding of the heritage of earth as a natural material used in Orkney's historic and prehistoric cultures. By sharing the connection of a community to their island environment through time, though artefacts thousands of years old, by hands-on workshops, in public talks and on-site engagement, the project will improve the appreciation of local heritage and demonstrate it's relevance to a Net Zero and biodiverse future. It will strengthen local cultural identity, improve professional heritage management and create a foundation for subsequent conservation skills training and historic building repair.
