Echoes from the Dock: Exploring the LGBTQ+ community’s relationship with criminal justice; from Oscar Wilde’s appearance at Bow Street in 1895 to today. Creating a co-produced exhibition, accessible conservation and a step change for future resilience.

Through this project we would like to achieve a step change to becoming a more relevant, resilient and community-led museum. By conserving the dock where Oscar Wilde stood during his committal hearing and utilising it to explore the broader relationship between LGBTQ+ communities (currently underrepresented in crime and justice heritage), we will expand our knowledge in working with underserved communities, marketing and audience development, educational programs, and creating co-produced exhibitions. This project will amplify previously unheard and unknown LGBTQ+ stories and voices, build relationships with underserved communities and build a framework for future co-produced projects and exhibitions, moving us towards our vision of becoming a community-led, thriving and resilient independent museum.
