Ensuring heritage connections for future generations

In May 2023, we committed to a three-year Recovery Plan that would pull YHA through the aftermath of the pandemic, inflationary pressures and the cost-of-living crisis, and set us back on the path to achieving an annual surplus. Through a combination of growth, savings and network change we’re laying the foundations for long-term financial sustainability. This application forms part of this plan. As a social enterprise charity, trading is central to YHA’s business model. Quality standards and appropriate facilities for key audiences (groups and families) are crucial. Investment will help reduce operating costs (energy use), increase occupancy levels (separation of areas through electronic key cards), improve visitor feedback, and grow repeat visits, strengthening hostels' viability. Stabilising hostel operations is the key to organisational sustainability. Additionally, we’ll reengage a large cohort of our long-standing supporters who’ll help provide a source of unrestricted funding to support YHA’s access programmes and capital assets.
