Expanding community outreach and enrichment by securing, celebrating and sharing the heritage of St Nicholas’ Church

Our project aims to secure the physical future of St Nicholas’ Church, a Grade 1 listed building currently on the “At Risk” register. We will repair the south aisle roof, conserve historic lead, plasterwork, and timber, and prevent further deterioration of medieval features. Building on lessons from our 2019 - 2022 HLF funded restoration project, and expertise gained via the HLF funded “Bats in Churches” project we will expand the church’s role as a community and heritage hub. The project will complete a digital archive, making records accessible to researchers, schools, and the public, and extend support for vulnerable adults and young people. In partnership with local ecological groups, we will enhance biodiversity initiatives, including extensive bat, moth, and flora surveys, ensuring the church’s heritage and environment are protected and shared for future generations.
