Historic Buildings

Faith. Folk. Foundations.

By 2030 St Mary’s Church Wirksworth will be off the Heritage At Risk Register. The legacy will be a watertight, accessible church and a vibrant church community involving people from across the town in caring for and using the church. We will repair the transept roofs and rainwater goods, windows and churchyard pathways, and repoint stonework. We will upgrade heating and lighting to make them more efficient and eco-friendly. Our 2 year activity plan will involve young people, those who don’t currently engage with the church and young adults with learning disabilities, and tell the long history of our town, its people and the importance of the church building. The PCC will be more sustainable with the building more used. It will be cheaper to run and easier to access. We will increase the range and frequency of hires as a cultural venue, improving the PCC’s income streams.
