Restore and protect Perth’s oldest building, the A-listed St. John’s Kirk, ensuring it is wind and watertight. Repairs include asphalt roofs and the 15th-century leaded-broach spire, enabling tours to the bells and tower with stunning views. Improved access will allow people with mobility issues main-entrance access for the first time. Visitors to St. John’s will enjoy a modern visitor experience that is inclusive, educational and inspirational. The historic site will offer improved interpretation, learning opportunities, and diverse cultural and heritage events. The project will catalyse a new vision for St. John’s as a hub for worship, alongside varied arts and culture, tourism, community, and heritage programmes. Community engagement and education play a key role. Skilled conservation tradespeople – stonemasons, lead workers, and woodworkers – will undertake the work, with skills development opportunities for young people to gain sector experience. Plans have been designed to support environmental improvements, organisational sustainability and economic growth.
