Historic Buildings
We’ll explore the option of the at risk, listed building Wilmont House becoming a permanent home for our growing collection of Northern Irish art that tells the many histories of Northern Ireland through the eyes of its artists. Positioning it within a heritage building, with multiple histories itself, will bring both the building and the collection to life. We want Wilmont House to become a visitor destination where the people of Belfast and its visitors can explore how our past contributes to our present. Golden Thread Gallery is known for its co-creation approach. We aim to co-design a space with people rather than for them, creating connections to the many cultural heritages that Belfast offers. We’ll work with local communities to make Wilmont House a publicly accessible space that speaks to the natural heritage of the park and the environment, giving it a rich, cultural focus for the city.
