'First Light': four centuries of scientific innovation at the Royal Observatory Greenwich

First Light is a once in a generation capital transformation of the Royal Observatory Greenwich, affirming the site as a leading centre for the public understanding and enjoyment of astronomy and time. Built on four pillars of inclusion it will achieve physical, intellectual, cultural and financial access for all. The project will save the significant architectural heritage, securing it for the next 70 years, helping unlock and fulfil the Observatory’s long-held potential to inspire visitors and build cultural and science capital in the UK. Uniting the concepts of time and space will achieve one cohesive and unforgettable visitor experience: providing people with the knowledge and opportunity to participation, finding relevance and meaning in the unique architecture, museum collections and refreshed galleries, and helping people understand how 350 years of scientific innovation, discovery and astronomical events observed from Greenwich have shaped the world we live in today.
