Fit for the Future

Our Fit For the Future Project will transform The John Rae Society taking us from a passion project to a professional and resilient organisation capable of delivering and running a capital project of international interest that engages audiences with Hall of Clestrain and famous Scottish Arctic explorer John Rae who was born there. It will increase our capacity through Board development, volunteer recruitment and improved advocacy and fundraising. New partnerships with Scottish and Canada’s First Nations, Métis and Inuit organisations, as well as Orkney’s community, youth and other groups, will enable us to explore, understand and commemorate this past, promote active health and wellbeing, and foster an adventurous spirit. It will equip us to preserve and sustainably develop this unique surviving heritage, to realise its benefits to the economy and wellbeing of the island, and to share it with the community, visitors to Orkney and across the world.
