Historic Buildings
Oldham Council is working with Chadderton Together, which supports community initiatives to improve resident access to heritage. The project will restore the Grade II* Listed Foxdenton Hall, which is on Historic England’s At Risk Register, and its surrounds. Supported by a range of engagement activities, the restored Hall will be a flexible, sustainable community hub that celebrates Chadderton’s heritage. We want to encourage social inclusion and build civic pride by engaging residents in heritage-led activities like never before, including celebrating the halls significance in the Civil War and Suffragist Movements, alongside providing new volunteering, training and upskilling opportunities. The project builds on resident and stakeholder engagement to date, and specific programmes have been developed to target groups not currently accessing heritage and wellbeing - Our Audience Development Plan Scoping Study will be expanded in the Development Stage. The project will ultimately encourage heritage-led intergenerational community engagement, promoting physical health and mental wellbeing outcomes by reducing isolation and promoting social inclusion.
