Free North Church Steeple Repair 2026

The Church owns a large building, dominant on the sky-line of the City. We carry out programmes of ongoing maintenance and repairs, and completed a significant project replacing stonework in 2025. As that project was completing, the church steeple suffered serious damage from Storm Floris (4-5 August 2025). We were forced to take down the top of the steeple in October 2025 for safety reasons (at a cost of £66k, including VAT). The top of the steeple is now stored at ground level, and the steeple is capped. Our insurers are not being helpful. Our project envisages rebuilding the top part of the steeple, to restore the city sky-line. We do not have the funds to do this at present and estimate requiring around £48k to rebuild this significant landmark on the sky-line of Inverness. We cannot easily divert ordinary running cost to pay for this unexpected project.
