The Quilt Association is custodian of an important collection and now aims to take some major steps forward. This collection of heritage quilts deserves more recognition to extend its significance. By widening its educational programme and networking the aim is to reach a wider audience and highlight the importance of mid-Wales as a centre of the Welsh flannel industry and traditional quilt making. By appointing a community coordinator to work with the trustees and volunteers, this would enable QA to engage more closely with all sections of our community, expanding the demographic profile. QA also plans to establish, through partnerships with organisations such as the Newtown Textile Museum and the Within The Frame research project, a mid-Wales Textile Trail highlighting the history and the skills of both industry and domestic work. Alongside this is an urgent need to ensure the building is structurally sound, fully accessible and environmentally sustainable.
