Historic Buildings
'Galashiels Heritage Revisited – Stitching a New Tapestry, Weaving the Future Together’ is a project aimed at investing in and regenerating Galashiels Town Centre, also the Gala Water the main thread (from the Tweed and connecting to the rest of the Borders) running through the town, collaboratively with community and key stakeholders. We have a vision for Galashiels which will try to unlock more of that sense of Place and honour it's heritage. The project involves funding the repair and restoration of key heritage assets and priority buildings; a project to improve the Gala Water and associated greenspaces for biodiversity and community, public realm and shopfront improvements. This will align with the Local Place Plan and other initiatives. Stakeholders, including the business community will work in partnership to achieve joint aims of investing I and regenerating Galashiels. We hope to preserve key heritage in the conservation area and deliver a number of community activities and events, and also aim to promote and fund a retrofit project to encourage greater energy efficiency in historic buildings.
