Garnethill Synagogue - upgrading the heating system in the boiler room

The Trust will replace its obsolete heating system, removing boilers that have long surpassed their intended 30-year operational lifespan. The current boiler room, part of the original configuration of the historic building, houses equipment that is now over 40 years old. These boilers are highly inefficient and increasingly difficult to maintain. Repairs rely on salvaged parts from second-hand equipment, and it is only a matter of time before components can no longer be sourced, leaving the system beyond repair. Replacing the outdated boilers with modern, high-efficiency condensing models brings numerous advantages. These systems will deploy advanced technology to capture and reuse waste heat, reducing fuel consumption and lowering carbon emissions by up to 30%. Many are compatible with low-carbon gases such as hydrogen, making the upgrade a future-proof step toward a greener energy supply. In addition, new systems emit fewer pollutants, improving air quality both inside and outside the building.
