Historic Buildings

Great Malvern Priory: Project Light and Space

Founded in 1085, Grade 1 listed Great Malvern Priory is one of the finest historic parish churches in England. Its collection of 14 medieval stained glass windows form the UK’s best surviving, most complete cycle of fifteenth-century stained glass and is of international significance. It is difficult to overstate the significance of the Great Malvern stained glass in the context of surviving medieval art. This project forms Phase 1 of 3 proposed phases of a Masterplan that will remove the windows and stonework from the national Heritage at Risk register. Focused on addressing those areas of most pressing need - notably historic fabric elements which are at significant risk of loss, and those that offer the greatest potential for improved public access - our project will bring to life the wonders of the Priory and its stories, allowing us to share more widely the heritage we are responsible for protecting.
