#GROW Developing and nurturing a screen heritage workforce for the future

The screen heritage sector’s expert workforce is ageing. The UK lacks adequate careers guidance, accessible education options or clear progression routes to develop a skilled next generation, putting the BFI National Archive and our sector peers’ long-term ability to care for the nation’s screen heritage at risk. Vital knowledge will be lost in as little as five years, as long-standing staff retire. We will grow a robust, diverse screen heritage workforce, developing new career routes through education, into entry-level vocational training and mid-career development – removing financial, social, and educational barriers associated with traditional pathways. This is a step-change for the sector. The legacy of this work will safeguard the nation’s screen heritage (collections). Knowledge, learning and resources generated will be shared with UK heritage and collecting organisations, archives, Arm’s Length Bodies, and the GLAM and University sectors; shaping solutions to common challenges and building a resilient future heritage workforce.
