Historic Buildings
As a Church, we are passionate that our building is maintained, appreciated and used by the local community. Our project will enable us to share the heritage of both our building and local area with the wider community by creating living archives of educational material and opportunities for ongoing learning. The works will consider tangible and intangible cultural heritage, coinciding with the 160th anniversary of the consecration of the church building. Tangible heritage: replacement of the heating system sympathetic to the Grade II listed church, the re-order of the west-end of the nave including an accessible WC and kitchenette and an audio-visual system displaying the following intangible heritage. Intangible heritage: promote St Mary’s Church as a focus for the community, encouraging more people to visit and learn about its heritage: our links with the local traveller community and our historical connections to the significant memorials on site.
