High level Masonry Repairs to the Spire of St Mary’s Church at Fretherne

St Mary's Church is a stunning example of a Victorian Gothic revival church. It is a listed building (Grade II*) and on Historic England's 'Heritage at Risk' register. The church was built in the 1840s and 180 plus years of weather have taken their toll on its fabric. The condition reports for St Mary’s since at least 2005 have highlighted that the condition of the masonry of the tower and spire were becoming a matter of concern and that major repairs were required. The planned repair project focuses on the spire section of the Tower only, following the advice in our Quinquennial report of 2022 which recommended that repairs to the spire should ideally be commenced within the next 12 months. This proposal has received support from the Archdeacon of Gloucester and as required by Diocesan regulations, her formal permission in July 2022.
