History In The Making (working title)

History In The Making is a partnership project connecting heritage venues and their staff with disability service providers, makers and artists, to create opportunities for neurodiverse and learning disabled adults as audiences and participants. This project will improve confidence, health and wellbeing and reduce social isolation for participants. Building on Culture Shift’s previous heritage projects, focussed on improving disabled access, this project also supports the ongoing commitment of Ditchling Museum of Art + Craft (DMAC) to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion. This pilot addresses; - the needs of learning disabled people and their carers to experience the social and health benefits of engaging in new activity and visiting new places and a range of different ‘endangered’ crafts embedded in the history of Sussex - the strategic needs of heritage venues to diversify audiences and improve access by developing heritage staff skills to welcome learning disabled adults and develop and improve resources.
