Home Front Museum: Northern Ireland 1939-1945

The Northern Ireland War Memorial (NIWM) aims to achieve saving heritage through a multifaceted approach encompassing improvements in museum display and community engagement. The project will expand the capacity of the education and outreach programmes delivered by NIWM and reach new audiences throughout Northern Ireland. Inclusion, access and participation improvements are also integral objectives of the project. These will be achieved by addressing the limitations of the gallery which do not present the collection to its full potential. The museum has a rich and diverse collection of Second World War artefacts which illustrate the story of the home front in Northern Ireland. A gallery re-fit is planned which will better utilise the space and accomplish a more effective, museum standard display system. The project achievements directly align with the vision and mission of the Charity; - To be an engaging and welcoming museum that provides a window on Northern Ireland’s key role in the Second World War and the impact of the war on its people; - To ensure that the story of the Second World War in Northern Ireland is told comprehensively and authentically and preserved for the education of future generations.
