#HP SWMM – Building Strong Foundations

South Wales Miners Museum (SWMM) is an accredited museum focused on the mining heritage, fundamental to the area’s history, development, tourism and identity. The museum was founded in 1972, formally opened in 1976, located in a purposely built museum in the Afan Valley, which has substantial links to the mining . The Museum is entirely volunteer-run, with all aspects of management being carried out by the trustees and volunteers. The aim of this project is to grow the resilience and capacity of the organisation, bringing in museum management skills to support the trustees to: strengthen governance create robust museum development plans supporting the organisation's future direction and growth in line with NPTCBC Heritage Strategy review existing and potential audiences review opportunities for business development and income generation for future financial resilience build relationships with external stakeholders and potential partners build community engagement, including improving existing volunteer management policies and procedures
