In Homage To The King

March 2025 will see the 10th anniversary of the reinterment of King Richard III at Leicester Cathedral. The incredible rediscovery of King Richard III’s body in the car park attracted international attention and remains arguably the most important modern-day archaeological discovery in our historic city. As part of the planned anniversary, ‘In Homage To The King’ will reconnect existing residents, new generations and young people from our diverse communities with this hugely significant piece of place-making heritage, exploring the story of King Richard III within a wider context that raises awareness and resonates with the cultural heritage of Leicester’s Global Majority communities. We will engage several primary schools and community centres from multi-diaspora neighbourhoods, where our research has shown this heritage is unknown; ensuring the rich tapestry of significant British history in Leicester can be shared and celebrated by everyone in our city.
