Inverness Young Archaeologists Club (YAC) has been running for over 20 years, enthusing 8-15 year olds in their local heritage and enabling them to learn and use heritage-related skills in informal, fun and sociable ways. Some have gone on to study archaeology or history. We see this project as a vital way to continue these activities, to attract new members and leaders, and to answer an important archaeological research question. Participants will learn and use the skills needed in an archaeological excavation - from initial desk research to telling people about what they find. This project will also engage the wider community in local heritage by sharing updates with families and local people through online blogs and through an end-of-project family heritage day. We will be working closely with Dingwall Museum and hope that the project will encourage participating children and families to become more engaged in the museum’s activities.
