Judges' Lodgings 400 – Voices from our Community

Voices from our community will see us work with local people, a textile artist and community group to develop site-wide interventions, display refresh and events programme, bringing in recent research into working-class histories, including new oral histories and a digital tour. We will preserve the House's physical heritage by restoring the coal and wash sheds and reveal history through a small archaeological dig in the garden, showing evidence of servant life. 2025 marks Judges Lodgings' 400th anniversary and its 50th anniversary as a museum, the perfect opportunity to promote and carry out this work. It builds on previous projects and programming that has supported the museum to grow and diversify its audiences including the Black history Facing the Past project. Our ambition is to be an open and welcoming museum for our communities and visitors to Lancaster with relatable and relevant representations of local history.
