The museum wishes to commemorate the 25th Anniversary of the troubles in Kosovo including the deployment of the United Nations (Resolution 1244), to protect the civilian population due to the fighting between ethnic Albanians who opposed ethnic Serbs and the government of Yugoslavia. This led to a series of atrocities/ethnic cleansing against the Muslim/Catholic Albanian community, resulting in the death of 2000 civilians/combatants and the displacement of 370,000 Kosovar Albanians by March 1999 (including 4346 to the UK). We are in partnership with Heartstone who possess a unique photographic record of events in Kosovo taken by the photographer Nick Sidle, including images of the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers. The collection is evocative, harrowing and truthful. We wish to tell the stories the Albanian community and include members of the UN, the Regiment, Kosovo refugees in the UK, as part of the exhibition and associated learning activities with schools and colleges..
