Laying the Foundations: Restoring St Peter’s Church and Shaping the Future of Thetford’s Heritage?.

This project will restore St Peter’s Church, Thetford, a Grade II* listed building on the Heritage at Risk Register, transforming it into an accessible town-centre hub for learning, creativity, and connection. St Peter’s will be a permanent hub for the East of England Regional Heritage Skills Network, building on the successful London model at the Houses of Parliament and further advancing the concept. Linking national investment with local delivery, the project will focus on retrofit, conservation and training, creating opportunities for young people and supporting regional heritage skills, helping tackle sector-wide shortages. Flexible design and green infrastructure will ensure sustainability and resilience. A flagship for Thetford’s heritage-led regeneration, the scheme will revive civic pride, wellbeing, and economic vitality. Urgent conservation will address structural decay, and sensitive adaptations will allow new community uses. St Peter’s will be a model of sustainable restoration and catalyst for lasting regional cultural and environmental renewal.
