Laying the Groundwork for Elgin Museum’s Future

Primary outcomes from this project: 1. Appointment of Project Manager (PM) for our Redevelopment Project. 2. Progression of Redevelopment Project by PM, continuing work ongoing since 2018 - working with architects / designers / other professionals, finalising design, obtaining necessary planning consent, sourcing funding. 3. Appointment of independent Inventory Project Manager (IPM). 4. Completion of a full inventory audit of the museum’s collection by the IPM. This results in: •a more informed understanding of the collection •better documentation of the collection, acting as a springboard to migrate to a SPECTRUM-compliant collections database •ability to better plan the new displays •opportunity to rationalise collection – e.g. identification of items in need of conservation, items which would be of greater benefit to other institutions 5. Reduced pressure on existing core of Volunteers, freeing their time to focus on other critical workflows, reducing the potential for volunteer burnout.
