'Lead turns Gold!' - The Museum of Lead Mining is 50!

Aim - 40% increase in footfall compared with 2023 to this important heritage site, so nearly lost! Wanlockhead Museum Trust (WMT), which runs the Museum of Lead Mining (MoLM) in the highest village in Scotland, celebrates its Golden Anniversary in 2024. It is 50 years since the community came together to prevent the social and industrial history associated with the, once important, lead mining industry located around being erased forever. This milestone is an opportunity to i) boost the recovery of footfall which has been severely impacted by the pandemic and other economic challenges; ii) celebrate the relationship between the small, rural community and the museum and iii) add new interpretations of our collection engaging a wider audience. The key achievement will be increased footfall and thereby increase the financial resilience of the museum. This, in turn, will enable investment in staff and skill development in the near future.
