Legacies in Stone: Connecting Communities with Historic Graveyards
We will: Build organisational sustainability of two Edinburgh graveyard groups and create a national network of Scottish graveyard groups; Save heritage and protect the environment through volunteer training, co-creating guidance and co-delivering 11 recording, conservation, planting and interpretation projects, which result in new understandings of historic graveyards; Connect Edinburgh WHS graveyard groups with Deaf Action, Grassmarket Community Project, and The Welcoming members, strengthening inclusion, access, and participation in heritage. Our legacy will be: EWH is more sustainable, having developed new skills, networks and knowledge Improved condition of WHS Enhanced physical and intellectual access to the graveyards for residents and visitors More resilient community stewardship of historic graveyards: - nationally through creating a self-sustaining national network of graveyard groups - locally, by building capacity in Edinburgh Graveyard Groups to protect 3 Edinburgh graveyards Volunteers develop new understandings of historic graveyards and heritage skills Cultural barriers to visit historic graveyards are reduced
